Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Sorry for the late journal entry regarding the contest. It wasn't very smart of me to plan the deadline on Queen's Day (national holiday here).

Anyway, since we only have one entry so far (thanks BookLover!) I will extend the contest another month. We really hope for some more entries!

Regarding the last contest, I really have no idea what's happening. I'm going to go poke whitelyte about that and hopefully sort everything out.

Youthful Spring Contest

What is it this time?: We want you to draw, write or create youthful Tamora Pierce characters! You can choose a pairing from the books and imagine what their children would look like, or you can draw a character from the books as a baby and/or toddler. Was Alanna born with purple eyes, or was she born with blue eyes like most babies? What sort of magic would a daughter of Tris have? It's all up to you!

Which media are accepted? Anything! You can enter literature, drawings, photo manipulations, crafts, etc. As long as it suits the theme of the contest.

End date: 31 May, 2010. We will extend it if there aren't many entries by that time.

Prizes: The first place winner will receive a special feature in our journal! Furthermore the prizes consist of custom artwork made by your mods (whitelyte or myself).

The three top places will receive prizes.

P.S. If you would like to help us out in a future contest by offering art as a prize (or anything else suitable) please send us a note.
